Becoming an Official

Thank you for your interest in interscholastic officiating.  The steps to becoming an official can be found by clicking here.

You will be able to find contact information for the individual in your area who is in charge of the sport in which you are interested in along with other information about the New Mexico Officials Association.

  • Once you have found the group leader in your area for the particular sport you are interested in please contact that individual to find out details about local group meetings and expectations.
  • After making contact with the local officials’ association in your area, register online at the following link:
  • The amount is $65 for the first sport and $50 for each additional sport or $40 for junior high and high school sub-varsity contests.  Swimming officials and track and field officials’ dues are $40.  Your fee pays for each official’s membership dues with the NMAA/NMOA and National Federation, rulebooks, tests, NMOA Constitution and By-Laws and insurance through the National Federation Officials Association.
  • Following the initial registration process, a new official must take and pass an examination in order to receive their official’s certification card.
  • Requirements for advancement along the levels of certification vary by sport and are listed in the NMOA Constitution and By-Laws.
